Kevin obtained a mechanical engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in 2000 with hopes of pursuing a career as a Mechanical Design Engineer. After graduation, he landed a job with a major defense contracting firm located in Massachusetts, where he started out designing massive rotating antenna structures capable of supporting thousands of pounds.
Although the work was challenging, after a few years of working in the corporate world Kevin was ready for a change. Having always been in love with the outdoors and working with his hands, he decided to entertain the idea of residential construction.
In 2003 he joined a team of subcontractors to gain experience in the field of construction working on home additions and remodeling projects throughout the Greater Portland and Boston areas. He learned the trade from the ground up; installing decks and walkways as the low man on the totem pole and progressing to framing and larger projects over his tenure with the team. After the first few projects he was hooked on the building trades. the outdoors and working with his hands, he decided to entertain the idea of residential construction.
Feeling like he had the skills and experience he needed to succeed. In 2004 he founded Kevco Construction. With his vast network of subcontractors, he is now able to oversee commercial and residential projects of any size. As Kevin put’s it “it was the best move of my career. I’m able to spend my days using my engineering background not just designing, but actually making projects come to life. There is a lot of satisfaction in seeing a project completed.”
Although Kevco Construction takes on projects of all shapes and sizes, Kevin’s favorite type of job to oversee is small commercial projects. “The deadline pushes the project a bit which forces us to plan out a bit further. If everyone is on the same page regarding schedule and expectations, the end result happens quick which is great for us and the customer.”
